Quartz sand is a natural abrasive widely used in sandblasting for rust removal. Propelled at high speed by compressed air or centrifugal force, its hard and sharp particles impact metal surfaces to efficiently remove rust, scale, old paint films, dirt and other surface contaminants. It is a classic and cost-effective choice for surface pretreatment and cleaning.
Efficient Cleaning:Its hard, angular particles can quickly and effectively strip rust and coatings, revealing a clean metal substrate.
Low Cost:As a natural mineral, it has a wide source of raw materials and a much lower procurement cost than many artificial abrasives (such as steel grit and brown corundum), suitable for one-time use or large-scale projects.
Appropriate Hardness:With a Mohs hardness of approximately 7, it is sufficient to handle common steel rust and coatings, while the cutting depth on the base metal is relatively controllable (compared to harder abrasives).
Uniform and Selectable Particles:Various particle sizes (e.g., 16-30 mesh, 20-40 mesh, 40-70 mesh) are available based on cleaning requirements, capable of both rough cleaning and fine processing.
Dry Process:Sandblasting is a dry operation, avoiding secondary rust issues that may arise from water-based rust removal. It is particularly suitable for surfaces requiring subsequent painting or anti-corrosion treatment.
Main Application Fields
Large steel structures: Heavy rust removal for bridges, ships, port machinery, oil drilling platforms, and external walls of storage tanks.
Industrial equipment and plants: Renovation and maintenance of pipelines, reactors, beams, columns, and metal frames.
Metal product processing: Sand cleaning of castings, descaling of forgings, and weld slag removal after welding.
Surface pretreatment: Standardized treatment of metal surfaces before painting, galvanizing, or anti-corrosion coating application.
