cenospheres and insulation board

Specific Roles and Advantages of Cenospheres in Insulation Boards
1. Ultimate Lightweighting and Density Reduction
• Role: Although cenospheres have a high true density (approximately 2.4-2.6 g/cm³), their hollow structure results in an extremely low bulk density (typically 0.4-0.8 g/cm³). When added to insulation board formulations, they can effectively replace part of the heavy fillers, increasing volume without adding weight, thereby significantly reducing the overall density of the finished product.
  • Advantages:
  • Reduces board weight: Facilitates transportation, installation, and construction, and lowers building structural loads.
  • Cuts costs: Optimizes the cost per unit volume in applications where costs are calculated by volume.
2. Significantly Enhances Thermal Insulation Performance
  • Role: This is the most important function of cenospheres. Their thermal insulation capacity stems from three aspects:
1. Hollow Structure Barrier: Each tiny cenosphere acts as an independent, enclosed thermal insulation unit, where the internal gas generates almost no convective heat transfer.
2. Reduces Solid Heat Transfer Paths: The spherical structure forms complex "thermal bridge blocking" paths in the resin/cement matrix, effectively delaying heat conduction.
3. Reflects Thermal Radiation: The vitreous surface has a certain ability to reflect thermal radiation.
  • Advantages:
  • Lower thermal conductivity: Improves the core "insulation" performance of the board, achieving better energy-saving effects.
  • Thinner thickness for equivalent insulation: Provides greater flexibility in architectural design.
3. Improves Mechanical Strength and Hardness
  • Role: Unlike irregularly shaped fillers, the spherical structure of cenospheres ensures uniform stress distribution under force, enabling them to effectively resist external pressure and prevent deformation. They act like countless tiny "pressure-bearing balls" that disperse the stress applied to the board.
  • Advantages:
  • Enhanced compressive strength: The board is less likely to be crushed or deformed.
  • Better dimensional stability: Reduces shrinkage and expansion caused by temperature or humidity changes.
  • Improved wear and impact resistance.
4. Reduces Water Absorption and Improves Durability
  • Role: Cenospheres are sealed hollow spheres that prevent moisture penetration into their interior. Their vitreous surface also exhibits almost no water absorption.
  • Advantages:
  • Moisture and seepage resistance: Ensures the insulation performance of the board does not drop sharply in humid environments (since the thermal conductivity of water is more than 20 times that of air).
  • Enhanced freeze-thaw resistance: Low water absorption significantly reduces the risk of internal freezing and expansion during freeze-thaw cycles, extending service life.
  • Corrosion resistance: Chemically stable and not easily reactive with acids and alkalis.
5. Improves Processing Performance and Fluidity
  • Role: The classic "bearing effect". The spherical structure of cenospheres reduces internal friction in the mixture, granting it better fluidity and fillability during production processes (e.g., casting, spraying).
  • Advantages:
  • Easy mixing and pumping: Improves production efficiency.
  • Enhanced surface smoothness of products: Facilitates mold filling to form a flat surface.
  • Reduced resin/adhesive usage: Due to good fluidity and large bulk volume, the amount of liquid resin can sometimes be reduced while maintaining the same consistency, thereby cutting costs.
6. Excellent Fire Resistance (Class A Non-Combustible)
  • Role: Cenospheres themselves are vitreous bodies formed by high-temperature calcination, with an extremely high melting point (>1400°C).
  • Advantages:
  • Improves fire rating: Insulation boards added with cenospheres can usually reach Class A non-combustible or flame-retardant standards, greatly enhancing building safety.
Different Mesh Sizes Match Exclusive Densities for Precise Scene Adaptation
  • 10-mesh specification: Corresponding to a density of 220-250 kg/m³, it features lower density, more reasonable pore structure, and stronger thermal insulation capacity. It can meet the high-space and long-span insulation needs of industrial plants without additional weight gain, especially suitable for food processing and machinery manufacturing plants.
  • 20-mesh specification: Corresponding to a density of 280-310 kg/m³, it balances insulation performance and structural stability. Its load-bearing capacity meets the long-term use requirements of external building walls, focusing on external wall insulation of residential communities and commercial complexes. It is adapted to the dual needs of winter cold protection and summer heat insulation in Xingtai and North China.
  • 30-mesh specification: Corresponding to a density of 330-360 kg/m³, it has a finer texture and slightly higher density. During construction, its adhesion to the wall surface reaches over 98%, making it less prone to gaps. It is suitable for insulation scenarios with complex shapes such as villas and characteristic commercial buildings, balancing aesthetics and insulation effects.
